Plan cleanup before an outdoor group outing

Make waste, borrowed equipment and shared supplies part of the plan so your group leaves an outdoor venue in good condition.

Reduce what needs disposal

Use reusable containers where practical and avoid bringing decorations that scatter easily. Ask the venue about food and waste rules before buying supplies.

Assign one person to bring bags and another to check shared equipment. Everyone still remains responsible for their own belongings.

Choose the disposal plan

Confirm whether the site has an appropriate collection point. If it doesn't, arrange to take the waste back with you. Don't leave a bag beside a full bin and assume someone will deal with it.

Keep sharp or fragile items contained and separate from ordinary rubbish.

Leave time for the final check

Stop activities early enough to collect everything without rushing the vehicle. Check the seating area, picnic spot and path used to carry supplies.

Put cleanup in the outing checklist alongside transport and food. A short final walk through the area can catch a forgotten bottle, ribbon or borrowed cup. The group should leave because the day is finished, not because someone else has been left with the cleanup.

Rules, fees and opening hours change. Confirm anything that matters before you rely on it.
